Day of Arafah 2011 -

DAY OF ARAFAH IS TODAY...

Today is an important day for Muslims. The 9th day of Dhul-Hijjah is the day of Arafat. It is this day when the pilgrims gather on the mountain plain of Arafat, praying and supplicating to their Lord. The day of Arafat holds great importance in Islam since this is the Day when Allâh completed his revelation on His Messenger (PBUH).

The day of Arafat is in fact, the most important day of Hajj. The Prophet (PBUH) emphasized the importance of this day by saying:

"Hajj is Arafat." [Reported in most major hadith works]

The day of Arafat is important for those not at Hajj as well.  Abu Qatadah (ra) reported:

'…The Messenger of Allāh, prayers and peace upon him, was asked about fasting on The Day of ‘Arafah. [He, prayers and peace upon him, replied]: ‘Fasting on the day of ‘Arafah is an expiation of last year’s and next year’s sins.’ [Muslim]

As such, scholars highly recommend that we fast on this day of Arafah and ask as much supplications (duas) as we can. Talhah (ra) reported:

"the best of dua's is dua on the day of arafat."

The Day of `Arafah is one of the days when supplications (du`a) are more likely to be accepted. This is based on the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) saying, “The best of supplications are those on the Day of `Arafah.” [Tirmidhi, Ahmad, Malik, and others] Imam al-Baji explained this as meaning, ‘Having most baraka, the greatest reward, and the quickest in being answered.’ [Baji,al-Muntaqa Sharh al-Muwatta].

It was narrated that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There is no day on which Allaah ransoms more of His slaves from the Fire than the day of ‘Arafah. He draws close then He boasts about them before the angels and says, ‘What do these people want?’” Narrated by Muslim.

One must remember, even though we have not gone to perform Hajj and cannot stand on the plains of Arafah, this day is as equally as important to us and we should make the most of this day by fasting if we can and also making lots of dua's that will benefit us all.

May Allah accept all our prayers and keep us on the straight path - Ameen.

Salsabil.
